BUSTER:
"I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for bringing Buster (aka Banks) into my life. It's been more than 6 months and things are working out great. He walks with me about 4 miles a day. Not only did I get a best friend, I also got a free fitness trainer. You guys did warn me he has a lot of energy. Keep up the great work. I can only imagine how difficult your job is. You really are doing a wonderful thing giving these dogs a second chance. They really deserve it. I've attached a picture of myself with Buster and his new sister, Snowbank. When I'm not walking with him, he has her to play ball and wrestle with all day. Because of you guys, Buster got a second chance and a great life.
-Bob DeStaso"

JACK:
"Hi Everyone! I just wanted to drop a quick note to let you all know how Jack is doing. He has become part of our little family. He's a very affectionate little guy-I think he just didn't find the right home, until now! We love him very much and promise to take good care of him. Jack loves to ride in the car with us and make his presence known to anybody we pass on the way! :) He spends most of his time with my husband Tom and I think they are good for each other. Jack lays down beside Tom's computer chair when Tom is at his desk. In the evening, when I get home from work, Jack greets me at the door and jumps all around until I pick him up and give him kisses. He's very obedient and will only jump up into my recliner when I pat the chair, then he hops right up onto my lap and makes himself comfortable. Tom takes him for walks 4 or 5 times a day. Then when I get home I'll take Jack out for a couple of short walks before we go to bed. He is very vocal, but thats fine (he makes us laugh.) Again...Thank-you for making Me, Tom, and Jack very happy-We'll keep in touch-
TOM & LYNDA & JACK DOERR--Verplanck, NY"

DIGBY (DISNEY):
"Thanks very much for your help adopting Disney (now known as Digby). She has adjusted very well to our home and we just love her. She hangs out with our dogs while the kids are at school and she is inseparable from our kids for the rest of the day. She follows them around, they dress her up in doll clothes and push her around in their stroller and the cat loves every minute of it. She has slept with my 5 year old Daughter Lauren every night since she came home with us last week. She is a very sweet cat with a very loving personality. Thank you for the amount of attention you gave to us helping us choose a pet that would fit in well with our busy household. Your thoughfulness ensured a wonderful fit and we are looking forward to many years with our sweet little Disney (Digby!). Kindest regards, Karen Shapiro"

JASMINE (JAZZY):
"Dear Elmsford Animal shelter, Almost exactly 10 years ago I adopted Jasmin from your Shelter. She has made my home truly home-y and my life full of love. I met her at the shelter when she was only 3 days old, just a little inkblot who was too young, of course, to leave her mother. But each day I called to check on her, and you held onto her for me for six more weeks. Then she came home, was spayed six months later, and has been the perfect companion all these years. I have attached a couple of pictures of Jasmin. Just a note of thanks for giving me Jasmin and for saving her life and the lives of countless other domestic animals."

WALLY:
"Wally was a special needs dog that came to our shelter when he was found abandoned under someone's car. While here he was weary of strangers but eventually bonded to the staff. His brother, Beaver, also found it hard to trust. Eventually Beaver found a home and Wally remained. Not long after Beaver left, Wally found a new home as well. His new owner tells us he's very playful and most content when he has a stuffed animal to play with."

PRINCESSA
"Princessa came to us when she became too much of a handful for her owners. During her stay here she kept her spirits up at all times. Playful and energetic, this strong girl needed an experienced and active owner. She finally found her new home where we hear she is doing fantastically well."

CHARLOTTE:
"Charlotte was adopted from our shelter as a very young cat. She's affectionate and sweet and thoroughly content in her new home."

BIRD! Hi Elmsford Animal Shelter! Back in December, my fiance and I adopted two wonderful little boys -- brother cats who went by the names Peter and Paul from your shelter. We just wanted to let you know that they are absolutely wonderful cats who want to snuggle non-stop! We have been so happy since they've come into our lives. We changed their names to Samwise and Pippin (after the Hobbits!) and they've been to the vet and are happy and healthy! Sam (formerly known as Peter) is a BIG talker -- he follows either of us around constantly, always meowing, always wanting to be picked up (and we pick him up every single time!) He loves to sleep on his back between Mom and Dad and snuggle really close. Pippin (formerly known as Paul) is a little more quiet, but never shy when it comes to affection. He loves to spontaneously jump on our laps and nuzzle his face to ours. He also loves to eat! They're such good boys. Their personalities are so wonderful. We feel so blessed to have them in our home. They make it a very happy place. Michelle Pasquerello and James Amodio, proud parents of Samwise and Pippin.

PENNY (right) is getting along well in her new home. Lisa reports: "Lady and Penny are adjusting nicely, and we're all excited for Lady to have a doggie sister. Penny is a wonderful 2 year old Lab-Shepherd-(possible Chow) mix, and is going to be a lot of fun. First activity of the day, Lady showed Penny the grounds and the art of making snow angels."

LUCKY CATS! I adopted my cats in January. They are lovely, adorable cats who love to play with their toys and lounge in their window beds and the pet beds on the floor. I find mice and crackle toys all over my apartment and have watched them throw their toys high in the air and pounce on them when they land. They love to be brushed and love to meet me in the kitchen in the afternoon for their wet food. Overall, I could not have been happier with them and encourage anyone who wants a pet to adopt.

EMMY - this little shephard mix girl, was a staff favorite during her time here. Although timid and confused at first, Emmy warmed quickly. She proved to be a playful, happy puppy while here! Many people were interested but none wer perfect until her new mom walked through the door. It was as if they were kindred spirits and just a few days later, Emmy went home with her new family.

DAKOTA
was a 4 year old neutered lab/shepard mix. He was an easy going, sensitive, adult who was comfortable with everyone he meet. He was a very athletic guy who we though would fit in perfectly with a family composed of kids, dogs, and probably cats. Ultimately, he was adopted to a family with chickens! We're sure the new sights have him constantly entertained!"

Henry and Zoe came to our shelter together. They are 7 year old Shih Tzu siblings and had to be adopted together. Zoe (on the right) was superbly sweet and loves to be held. Henry was more independent and acted a bit like a protector, patroling the area and watching out the window to make sure those he loves were safe. These two little loves found a home together where they can grow old with each other and their new family.

LOVED! We rec'd the following happy email from an adopter: "Hope you enjoy this photos of 'Gizmo' now known as Andy. After some formal training he has resolved some aggression issues and is a loving, obedient and trusted family member. I wish you could see him romping outdoors with the other dogs in the dog park. He is full of joy! Please have adoptive people take the time and patience to understand the need for time and training in a transition. I bet too many dogs get returned or never adopted at all. We absolutely love him. Thanks!"   Barbara & Nick

CLOSE FRIENDS melt our hearts. Here's what Annie and Sal report: Last year we adopted a 3 year old special needs Siamese from your shelter. We brought him home because his personality won us over. I volunteered to socialize the cats there and it found it more difficult each time to leave him when going home. He has also become good company for our 14 year old male Siamese. This is a photo of the two of them on my sofa.

CARLIE's new family, the Olsens, sent us this nice note: We just wanted to let you know how wonderful our dog Carlie is doing. She has been a wonderful addition to our family. She is an extremely fun-loving dog. Adopting Carlie has been the most wonderful experience for our family. She just fit in perfectly! It will be a year in April that Carlie has been with us. Wow, how fast time has gone! Thank you for doing such a wonderful job for all the wonderful animals that you have, and have had, in your care.

CANDY is a 4 month old female pitbull mix. She got along well with all people and other dogs. It didn't take this little mush very long to catch the eyes of some visitors who were eager to adopt her and give her a new home. After a very short stay at the shelter, this happy little puppy went home with a very happy family... We hope they will all live happily ever after!

BELLA (previously Bacci) came to Elmsford as a young pup. This playful little pitbull mix got on well with all animals and loved to cozy down with her puppy friend Linda after a good play session. Bella won the heart of an energetic couple in search of an exceptionally sweet pup to complete their family. This picture was taken when she came back for a visit and my has she grown!

GERTRUDE and STRONG both came to our shelter as very young kittens. Gertrude was a female orange tabby, a rare find, and Strong came to our shelter when his owners couldn't afford medical bills. The two became cagemates and were immediately bonded. They wrestled and played for hours and then snuggled down to nap together afterward. They were adopted together by a young man looking for some furry friends to love.

SWEET WILLIAM was found as a 5 week old kitten wandering in someone's backyard. Although scared at first, Sweet William quickly warmed up and became and outgoing, friendly little man. Once we were sure he was healthy, he came downstairs into the general population and went up for adoption. His wonderful personality meant he didn't stay long. He was quickly adopted by a young couple who could keep up with his young energy level and playfulness.

CYNTHIA was found tied outside the shelter in the early morning. She wasted no time in proving herself to be one of the most affectionate dogs to ever walk through Elmsford's doors and she quickly befriended the rest of the Elmsford puppy's. She was truly a hugger and would jump into your lap whenever the opportunity presented itself. Truthfully, Cynthia had an indescribable quality that drew people and other dogs to her. Despite all the attention she recieved during her stay here, nothing could compare to the love and affection she will recieve in her new home with her new parents.

jennie

JENNY, a young cocker spaniel, was found tied outside the shelter one morning. With no history on her, she started here with a clean slate. The staff often laughed as this rambunctious girl bounded around with her hair and ears flopping all around. A bit fiesty, Jenny needed a patient owner who would love her no matter what, and she found that. Her new mom fell in love with her as she watched her bounce around, ears and hair flopping, in the puppy pen. We hear she's entered obedience class and is learning some new tricks!

WILOMENA, a friendly little guinea pig, was originally being housed as a school pet, but as the year came to a close, none of the students or staff wanted to care for her over the summer months, so she came to our shelter. While here she befriended several rabbits and a few other guinea pigs too! Wilomena was so outgoing (and vocal!) that she drew a great deal of attention. One Guinea Pig lover found her picture online while searching for a friend for her Guinea Pig, Fuzz'ums. Although Wilomena was a bit hesitant to befriend her new roommate, her new mom hoped they'd learn to buddy up, so Wilomena went home with Fuzz'ums and her new mom and dad.

Sha has been adopted by someone who appreciates royalty!

SHA, "the Prince", a Persian, came to our shelter after being passed through several different homes, ultimately landing in a home with a cat that didn't appreciate his presence. Since Sha was declawed, he couldn't defend himself, so he came here to find a new home. While here, EAS staff discovered that Sha had dry eye; he would need drops in his eyes twice a day for the rest of his life. It was going to be hard to find a home for this special needs guy... but sure enough, the perfect home came along. Sha now lives with another declawed cat and a family to take care of him and love him just as he needs.

Tiger

SUMMER, a two year old Lop rabbit, came to our shelter when her first family purchased a dog and didn't want Summer any more. Although she had a rough start, arriving at our shelter in a cage in which she could barely move, she was immediately placed in a more spacious cage. As she settled in, her temperament leveled out and she moved into a larger hut with many roommates. The maternal one of the bunch, Summer could often be seen grooming her rabbit friends. She found herself a home with a long time rabbit lover where she will live in a spacious hutch with plenty of people to pay her attention.

TIGER, a young spayed female Lop
rabbit, came to our shelter when her
owners had too many rabbits. While at
Elmsford Shelter, she'd hop around her
hutch playing with the other rabbits
while her ears flopped about. Tiger got
along well with her roommates and
finally found herself a home where she
could make a new friend, another
rabbit, and play with her new mom
when her roommate needed a nap.

Casey

CASEY, a 6 year old laborador mix, came to our shelter when her owner passed away. She was paired with her roommate Bosco, who turned out to be the attention hog, so Casey didn't get the attention she deserved. After a few potential homes, Casey won the hearts of a true dog lover who could recognize her potential underneath the bouncy girl. She now lives where she has plenty of land to exhert her energy and some doggy playmates too!

BEANIE, a 2 year old brown tabby, was a truly speical needs cat. He arrived at our shelter when he was a very young kitten losing a battle against distemper, an often fatal disease. With the care and attention (and lots of TLC) of the Elmsford staff, Beanie fought off the disease, but there were some lasting neurological and biological effect. This exceptionally sweet little man won over the heart of a long time EAS supporter with a soft spot for special needs animals. He now lives with her in his padded haven, where he can flop all he wants with no risk of injury, and receive all the love and attention this amazing cat deserves

PAULIE, a 7 year old maltese, came to Elmsford when his owners moved to an apartment that didn't allow dogs. This spunky little heart stealer certainly got his fair share of attention when he cocked his head as visitors cooed at him, but it wasn't until the perfect home came along that Paulie made his move. The family had a tough decision between two dogs, but when Paulie pulled out all the stops, he won them over. Able to roll over, beg, dance, sit, and speak, Paulie made his mark and finally went home with his favorite family.

Chris went to a new, loving home.

CHRIS, a young long-haired kitten, came to our shelter when the landlord declared there were no pets allowed in the building. This little guy had a big personality and got on well with all other cats. His short stay here ended when one visitor spotted him among all the other kitties, taking a nap in the back of his cage while his cagemates tackled each other. It was love at first sight, and even though they looked at several other cats, something about Chris just held their attention. Chris went to his new home where he will have someone to play with him all day long.

SKIPPY, a 3 month old beagle mix, was originally adopted from a different shelter and not a month later, his family decided to move and turn him in to a new shelter, ours. Being the new pup on the block, Skippy came on strong and tried to boss the old timers around, but he quickly learned that the best way to get attention is to be adorable and sweet, something that came naturally to him. During a tour through the kennels, one visitor spotted Skippy goofing around with the big dogs in the puppy pen and fell in love. That afternoon, she returned with her fiance and Skippy took to them immediately. He went home with them just a few days later.

SNOWY
, a white ferret, came to our shelter with two siblings when his owners couldn't afford to care for them anymore. Super sweet and always looking to cuddle, Snowy was one of the first ferrets to the door when it opened. His new mom came in, spotted him, and fell in love immediately.

RUSTY
, a black lab mix puppy, came to our shelter when he became too much for his owners. This playful puppy romped around behind the desk all day playing with the young guys, and one he had tired them out, antagonizing the older guys to play. Extremely affectionate and people oriented, Rusty didn't stay long. He found himself a home with a young child to match his energy level, and a family that would love him and play with him all day long.

Hi, I'm Snowflake!
SNOWFLAKE
Hi! We are a white boy ferret and a little girl ferret with adrenal disease who found shelter with you for awhile. You knew us as "Sanford" and "McGoo," but our new names are "Snowflake" and "Peapod." This is just to let you know that we are very, very happy in our new home. I (Snowflake) wrestle with my mouse toy, romp frequently out of my cage, and go out on the leash a lot to investigate every nook and cranny of the yard. Today I dug a nice deep hole in the yard and sniffed to my heart's content--until my new owner dragged me away--then I chased 2 cats. We just wanted to thank you for taking such good care of us until we found a new home! Love, Snowflake and Peapod (alias Sanford and McGoo)

Other pets from our adoptable pages that have gone to new homes: (please
note that these animals are NO LONGER AVAILABLE and have been happily placed!)

TRACKER, a 13 year old declawed tabby, came to our shelter when his owners didn't want him anymore. This outoging and affectionate big guy was often overlooked because of his age. Although his amazing personality easily won over the staff, it wasn't until one woman came in and looked in his eyes that he melted the heart of his new mom. Tracker was adopted together with Mel, his roommate during his stay here, where they now live happily together. MEL, a one year old declawed black and white, had a rough start to life. Adopted out of our shelter as a young kitten, his owners decided they didn't want him anymore and returned him. Mel was paired up with Tracker and they became roommates. Mel was a frisky little attention seeker who caught the interest of many visitors, but it wasn't until he caught the attention of his new mom (along with his roomie Tracker) that the two were adopted together. LILY, a 9 year old spayed cocker spaniel, came to us when her desire to be the queen led to some jealousy in her first home. Lily did have epilepsy, a siezure disorder, and required medication twice daily (which she took easily in a piece of cheese). She was a loving, attentive (and obviously adorable!) companion whose favorite place to relax was in your lap or sitting contently on your feet. She finally found her perfect home with an adult family where someone would be home to love her all day long.
HAZEL, a Staffordshire terrier, came to the shelter when her owners no longer wanted to care for her. Although she had a rough start, her spirits were always high. Eager for love and affection, Hazel got her fill as she danced around behind the front desk where she greeted visitors by popping her front paws up on the partition. One EAS visitor spotted Hazel among all the others and asked to take her for a walk. After some playing and cuddling in the grass, the visitor was sure that Hazel was the right pup for him. She now lives with a wonderful couple where she plays all day and settles down for some love from her parents at night. MAURIZIA, a young long haired tabby calico, came to Elmsford as a stray. Her beautiful markings made her stand out in the crowd. Calm, affectionate and friendly, Maurizia hung back in her cage and let her cagemate greet visitors. With a little help from a staff member, one visitor found herself on our couch with Maurizia in her lap. With her purring and kneeding, Maurizia won over her new mom and went home that same day to purr and kneed to her hearts content with her new family. FREDERIKA, a rat, was abandoned outside the shelter in her cage with her sister, Maxine. Frederika was a bit more outgoing and Maxine was a bit more shy. The two would often hang out on the shoulders of one of the EAS staff members. At last, they found a home together with a small animal lover.
STAR, a purebred Beagle, came to our shelter when her family couldn't care for her anymore. While here, Star proved herself to be the all around perfect family pet. Although she drew a lot of attention (afterall, she was a beautiful girl!) it took the right home to win her heart. She was adopted to a home with a child to play with all day, and parents to snuggle with at night. STORM, a white shepherd, found his way to the Elmsford Animal Shelter as a stray. After a bit of a clean up and some one on one attention, Storm’s outgoing and loving personality showed through. This gentle giant was adopted by a wonderful couple with a soft spot for shepherds. We hear he thinks he's a lap dog... BANKS came to Elmsford when his owner became unable to care for him. A young pit bull mix, he got along well with some animals but prefered to be alone. One Internet cruiser saw Banks' picture on PetFinder and decided to stop in and meet him. He fell in love and a few days later, Banks went home with his new dad.
ANGEL came to EAS when the other dog she lived with was bullying her. While here she proved herself a gentle and submissive girl who would do best in a single-pet home. She finally found her family when they fell in love with her gentle nature. She now lives happily, as an only dog, with her new family. ELVIS is a long haired guinea pig. He's curious and playful and once he knows you he'll weep for your attention. Exceptionally sweet, the other guinea pigs were bullying him, so he lived separately. He spends most of his time napping in his hideaway but will gladly emerge for a veggie treat. HERBIE is a very sweet Domestic Long Hair neutered male. He loves to sleep on his back and stretch himself out. This affectionate guy had a rough start but is now ready to try again with his new loving family.
DANNY is a domestic short hair kitten. He came to our shelter as a stray with an infection in his tail. Unfortunately, the infection was beyond treatment and Danny had to have his tail amputated. But now he's completely healed! Playful and outgoing, Danny greets his visitors and practically leaps out into their laps purring even before they start petting. LAURA is a Domestic Short Hair tabby/calico. Although she's feisty with other cats, she is wonderful with people. Her princess like personality made her a wonderful fit in a home where she can be the only cat and gets lots of attention and affection from older children and/or adults. DAPHNE, a year old spayed female, is an all grey domestic short hair, possibly mixed with Russian Blue. She was abandoned at our shelter with three kittens, one of which has since been adopted. Very frisky and playful, Daphne loves to be pet and purrs loudly to let you know. She's so playful, she tires her own kittens out!
PANDA, a polish rabbit, came to our shelter with SHAG, a lop, when their owner had too many rabbits to care for. The two got along well with other rabbits and happily shared their hutch here with several other bunny buddies. Both were very sweet and eager for love, so it didn't take long for them to find a home where they can hop and snuggle as much as they like. BUDDY is an 8 year old neutered Gordon Setter mix. Affectionate and people oriented, his prior owners couldn't provide the type of life he deserved. He loves to run and exert his energy and would do best in a home with a yard. Buddy gets along well with other dogs and probably children. - ADOPTED!!
MAX is a three year old neutered Rottweiler. He’s fantastic with other dogs and possibly cats as well. The definition of "gentle giant" he’s a lumbering bear of a dog who enjoys walks and quiet time. The best home for Max would be a calm one to match his temperament, and one with plenty of chairs as he truly believes he’s a lap dog. Young, lively kids are not for Max as they tend to make him nervous. - ADOPTED! SHAKESPEARE was left outside our shelter in a box with two cats. The most outgoing and curious of all our guinea pigs, he walks around high on his toes and ruleS the guinea pig hutch. Although he thinks he's the king of the other guinea pigs, he's happy to run around on the floor and gather scattered treats whiLe playing with his human friends. He would do best in a home with older children or adults only. - ADOPTED! RAMBO is a 1½ year old neutered male Kelpie mix. He's a fun loving guy and although shy at first, he quickly warmed to strangers. It didn't take him long to find the right people for him. This happy, energetic little guy will keep his new family on their feet while playing and on their toes with his mischief!
NOEL is approximately 2 years old. She is a Turkish Angora mix who was found abandoned the night before Christmas in a carrier with a brown marmalade tabby named Holly. Although very scared at first, the two have really come out of their shells. Noel loves attention but can be feisty at times. Holly is shy at first, but warms up and loves to sit in your lap. The two must be adopted together, into a child-free home. IWE (Eway) is a 3 year old neutered husky mix. The perfect escape artist, he is an intelligent dog who knows basic commands and is housetrained. His perfect home would have a large fenced in yard as he is a complete outdoorsman. Kids and other dogs would be fine companions for Iwe since he’s lived with both. AUGIE is a 7 year old neutered Retriever mix. He's a calm fellow, extremely affectionate and sociable. Augie knows a number of commands, rides well in the car, and is very easy to leash walk in spite of his size. Not a fan of cats, he is fine with most female dogs and selective with males. Augie would make an excellent addition to a family of adults and/or older children.
