CASEY: Just wanted to let you know things are going great with Casey. She still has a little trouble with her knee but the meds seem to help. She loves her new home and is great with guests and other dogs. She even tolerates our bunny J. She loves to sleep and cuddle with my 18 year old son Nic. The separation anxiety has disappeared too. Just wanted to let you guys know all is well. Thanks for everything, Trish and Nic Farmer.

MAX: Oliver (now Max) and I wanted to write and thank you. Max is the best kitty I could have hoped for, and has made himself right at home. He is a true Tonkinese in every way. He loves having company and entertaining, playing fetch, and giving kisses. I can't imagine being without him. Thanks again, Amy and Max.
CLEO, NANOOK and MAXX are all happy, healthy and full of energy. We wanted to share these pictures with you so that you can see the progress of Cleo, Nanook and Maxx. We have truly been blessed with adopting Nanook
and Maxx. Maxx continues to be a happy powerhouse, who is full of love and is the most lovable dog ever. Nanook is full of life, he is no longer reserved, voices his opionion and is actually licking?us when he is happy to see us. Cleo, continues being the Alpha, thanks to Nanook and especially Maxx despite her age (11 years old) she is stronger than ever, and extremely energetic. She enjoys her new family. We hope that this picture expresses our happiness and the love we have for our new family. P.S. Maxx is finally getting a little better with bathing. They are no longer on commerical food, instead they are eating homemade. Thank you so much. The Laboy Family
FINN: I wanted to write another little thank you note. My husband and I adopted Finn (formerly Sam) from your shelter just over a year ago. Debra helped us with the adoption. He had been turned in by a family in North Salem with triplets who had not been good with him. Since then, he and our existing dog Greta have become best friends. He is the biggest lover and goof-ball we have ever encountered. We have enjoyed him so much that we started fostering for Pet Rescue in August and have had 12 dogs and 6 kittens stay with us since. Finn is so amazingly patient with all of the puppies letting them jump all over him and pull on his tail. Anyway, I wanted to say thanks again for such a wonderful dog. Serena Clarke
OBIE: It has been just about three weeks since I have left you, so I thought that I should finally write. All is going very well for me as you can see. My new owners, Ed and Cristine, are taking very good care of me. I would just like to say thank you to all of you, I will never forget you. You guys where there for me when I needed you the most, when it looked like nobody wanted me, and it was your love and care that got me through it all. Be well and say hi to all my friends at the Elmsford Animal Shelter. I better go before Ed and Crissy come home and find me using the computer! With much love, Obie the beagle Jedi knight
TERRY: I'm doing fine in my new home. It's taking me a little work to get these humans, dogs and cat to realize that there is someone new in charge now. They're learning to adjust to me. I take 2-3 practice jumps and I am able to leap up to chairs, sofas and beds. This is me relaxing very comfortably on a bed. Just wanted to say "hi" and let you know that all is well. Love, Terry. P.S. Besides "Terry" they sometimes call me "Tiny T".

AMBER: We wanted to say thank you for helping us find "Quartz" (Amber). We have been having a wonderful time with her. She is exactly what we were looking for and is very comfortable which is great. Thanks again!! Cory & Anne Pantoja. P.S. Amber says, "Meow".
PETRA: We adopted Petra (nee Pepper) from you around Thanksgiving 2003. I've been thinking we should let you know how she's doing. We live on Manhattan's
Upper West Side and go running along the Hudson together nearly every day. Petra loves chasing squirrels and is a great running partner. For a middle-aged lady, she's in wonderful health and still very puppy like. Everyone remarks on her great looks. One of our friends calls her "Cleopetra" because she looks like she has eyeliner on. We just wanted you and the family who left her originally with you to know that she's found a happy home and is absolutely thriving. Believe me, she gets a lot of love. Here's a picture of her in today's first snow. Many thanks. Dov Fobar

ANTONIA: Antonia with her new friends.
SAVANNAH: Hello everybody. I just wanted to update you on Savannah. The car ride home went very well. Savannah sat next to my son Jordan the whole ride home. She is doing great! Savannah only knew how to sit and sometimes lie down on command. It's been about a week now since we took her home and she knows lie down, come, heel, walk, get in bed, (when it's bed time, she has her own doggie bed) out (when she is in a room and not permitted to be in there at that time) stay, speak, and belly up! Savannah loves her belly rubbed so now I tell her belly up and she lies down and rolls onto her back with her belly up! She is doing very well on the leash and no longer runs from it. The people who have had the chance to see her have all told me how beautiful, smart, and friendly she is. My neighbors and landlord adore her and bring her treats. I found that when I entice her to play, she makes this cute little sound and chases my feet! When I get home from work she greets me at the door with kisses, and jumps and wants to play! My sister moved out to live with her boyfriend and my fiance has moved in! Savannah just adores him and loves to lie next to him and our son and watch TV. Thank you again from Tabitha Jordan Mensa and Savannah!
SABRINA (WHISPER): About three months ago I decided that my young adult male cat Coon needed a friend. Coon is FeLuk positive so that meant a trip to the FeLuk room up stairs. Upon entering I met many fine cats, but before I realized it, the choice had already been made for me. A small gray and white cat, Sabrina, made a beeline for me and followed me around the entire time I was there. I went home to give the situation some thought but I hardly need have bothered. Sabrina had made her intentions clear, and that was that! Shortly after taking her home I decided to rename my little girl Whisper. This was due both to her size, and her (usually) soft voice that never seems to rise above a whisper, even when she is putting all her might into it. Since that first day there have been a few rough spots to overcome. Coon needed a little time to adjust to his newly expanded family, and Whisper developed a nasty sinus infection that gave her some hard days, but in the end I was left with two happy, loving cats. Also, I've been able to introduce Whisper to some delicacies of the feline world. My girl now knows about tuna, various varieties of canned cat food, and she thinks of it all as being the food of the gods. Two years ago I never would have thought that I would be taking in special needs cats, but here I am and I couldn't be happier because "special needs" brought me on of the sweetest, best natured and most affectionate cats I have ever known! Thank you. Dan Rapp
BEN: We wanted to say thank you to the Elmsford Animal Shelter for letting us adopt Ben (formally Trooper). Adopting a senior cat was the best decision we had made. This is a picture of Ben relaxing between naps. He has turned into quite the lap cat. He only wants to sit beside us and be petted. He is calm and gets along great with our other cats. Please tell your staff thank you for taking good care of him. We adore him.
Sincerely, Clarice and Douglas
CLEO, NANOOK and MAXX: Nanook is out and about, he is happier and is walking freely all around the house. He is slowly becoming more affectionate and waits for us eagerly to get home. Maxx is a puppy in disguise; he is as wonderful as Nanook. He is free to roam the house, and enjoys playtime. Cleo is getting along with Nanook and Maxx, she actually sleeps next to Maxx. We have been in contact with Brenda, and she has provided us with the best dog food for our 3 huskies. They are on Merrick dry and Wellness moist. They love the food especially the duck flavor moist food. For your reference, Maxx and Nanook have finally received their dog license and have a home for life. Take care and thank you for the wonderful additions to the family, Eneida, Carlos, Bryan, Cleo, Nanook and Maxx. P.S.: Maxx hates baths; we learned this the hard way. After the bath it seemed that Carlos and Bryan were the ones to have bathed instead of Maxx.
BRUNO:
Here is Bruno at his new home in Park Ridge. He is Mr. Popular and everyone has fallen in love with him. We have an abandoned female cat named Gracie which I got when she was thrown from a car in Long Island. Bruno and Gracie tear up the house every day playing... Thanks so much again for helping Bruno find us. Mike Kinsey

TERRY:
Here's a picture of Terry in his new bed! We Love Terry, and he is making a great adjustment to our home. The Prentki Family

EVEY:
We brought Evey home about a month ago now and we are so glad we did! She is a truly a great dog. How she lasted 3 years without finding a family we just don't know - but we're glad she waited for us. She's had all her vaccinations updated at Rye-Harrison Veterinary Hospital, and they are amazed at how well she's doing even with her old leg injury. It doesn't stop her from wrestling with her older brother Buddy! Thanks again for keeping Evey for us. Mary Beth Dale and Wes Griffin
RENALDO:
Just to let you know, "Renaldo the Red" (formerly known as Razor and then, Regalo), now a.k.a. "Renaldo," has a very good life! Here is a picture of him enjoying his favorite bone. He gets lots of attention, has play dates with other dogs, travels, and has many friends (people as well as dogs). He sleeps in the "big bed" and goes just about anywhere he wants. He walks about three miles a day and knows everyone in the neighborhood. Renaldo likes to burrow under the covers, and does not like having his nails trimmed (but we do it). He has some leash aggression but we're working on that. Thanks to whoever gave him up to Elmsford - a no-kill shelter - because without that decision neither of us would be as happy as we are. Rest assured, he is in good hands. Good luck with your work, Elmsford! Thank you for all you do! ALC
BRITTANY:
We are the Marino family who adopted Brittany 7/21/07.I just wanted you all to know she is a wonderful well behaved dog and has fit in well with the family. We made a great choice and just wanted to say thanks again. She is very happy with us as well !? and I must say for a 9 year old dog she has a lot of spunk when she wants to play.We will keep in touch. Marino Family
FIDO:
I adopted Moto (now Fido) a few months ago. Overall, he is doing very well. He loves attention from me and my roommate. He will come right on my bed and snuggle up behind me. He is very playful and is spoiled rotten! He has a few cat beds and tons of toys. His favorite is the toy laser. He has lost a pound so far since being with me because he is getting exercise. I also had blood work done on him and he no longer needs the Ursodial that he was taking every day. He is also now on the right cat food (R/D). He is in good health although his tonsils were inflamed when I initially brought him to the vet. He had a bit of a cold and a lot of wax build-up, but after a good ear flushing and some antibiotics, he seems to be doing a lot better. Jessica Gallus
PEANUT, DAISY and LUCKY:
In February 2003 we adopted 3 puppies from your shelter. At the time they were just 4 months old; they will be 4 years old this November. I wanted to send you pictures and let you know how much we love them. They bring so much joy to us everyday and I couldn't image life without them.
Their original names were "Daisy", "Peanut" and "Betty Boop". We kept "Daisy" and "Peanut"'s names but changed "Betty Boop" to "Lucky" (aka Lucky Lou"). When we first went to adopt a puppy we originally just wanted two but upon arriving at the shelter you had three sisters left. We couldn't leave one behind so we took all three. We were told that they would all be close to 100lbs. Thankfully they are all only around 55lbs and stand about knee height. They all have such different
personalities. Peanut loves her belly to be rubbed and will sit by you for hours if you just pet her. She loves to be outside and loves to carry around her little squishy toy which squeaks. When she gets it to squeak ... she will squeak that toy for as long as she can, then poops out with the toy under her sleeping chin. She also loves to eat ... she is such a ham.
Daisy always has to be the center of attention. She demands the most attention and will let us know if we are not paying enough attention to her. I swear one day she will talk. The sounds she makes sometimes sounds like a words. She loves to play with her ball, loves for us to throw it and she will go and get it and bring it right back for some more throws. She is the smartest dog ... outwitting her sisters in the funniest of ways. If one of her sisters is on my lap being pet ... she will run around the corner, cause a distraction, when her sister jumps off my lap ... she will run around the corner and up on my lap. Her and her sisters have a big fenced in yard and she also loves to be outside and loves the snow!
Lucky is something special. I have never had a more gentle, loving dog but fierce at the same time. She will protect us till the
end. If any other animal gets in her yard ... forgot it! She has gotten 2 birds, 2 possums, a mouse and had a fierce fight with a skunk (that is a whole other stinky story, hehe). She is a bug catcher. All we have to say is "Lucky buggy" and she comes running. She will watch the fly, spider, moth ... whatever it is until she can catch it. She loves to be hugged. She is leader of all
three and keeps her sisters in line. She also loves to play catch with her ball and loves to be outside. Sometimes while outside, if she sees a squirrel or bird in the tree, she will run and run up part of the tree! She can jump as if she is a rabbit. She really is something.
The best thing is to see them all playing together. They always play together and love to chase each other around the yard. It is really funny to hear when they bark ... one will start to howl and then all three of them are howling as if they are wolves in the forest. I just can't thank you enough for allowing us to adopt them. We love them so much and the past 4 years has been the best because of them. I can't wait for the next 4 and the next 4 and so on and so on. Delia Ferrigno, Valhalla, NY

PEANUT:
My wife Cristine and I adopted Peanut the beagle from you two weekends ago. I just wanted to drop you a note and a picture to tell you how happy we are with Peanut. He is a wonderful dog that we love very much. Thank you so much for all the help and support you showed to us. And thanks again for all the wonderful work that you do for all the animals. With much happiness, Ed, Cristine and Peanut Del Pizzo
PIBO:
On February 2nd, 2007, I adopted a dog, Pibo, half shih-tzu half pug. We brought him home and ever since then our lives have slowly begun to revolve around him. Every sinlge person who comes to the house falls in love instantly with him. Dog haters are transformed into dog lovers around him. He is affectionate, comical and contagious. You all nailed his personality when you said he is willing to please and he is playful. What you didn't get was how clever he is and how much he loves to be around people. Whoever we are, there he is. Sunday's are a fun house because my niece comes over and he just gets a playmate for a few hours. Thank you, for taking this dog in and or allowing us to bring him home. And the next time we adopt (which may be soon as he
needs friends) we will most certainly come to you guys. This is a photo of him and my nephew in a swimming pool. Pibo thought it was a good way to let off some steam. Sincerely, Eunice Alicea
SPIKE:
I adopted Mr Spike last year and he has been doing wonderfully. His ear infection is doing much better even though the doctor feels its best to keep him on drops and his eyes are nice and clear. It is so funny because he goes with us everywhere and everyone always asks what kind of dog is that? And then when I say a Min Pin they look even more shocked!! As you remember Spike is the only Min Pin who I know that tips the scales at 16 pounds; it used to be 19 so he is slimming down slowly but that is typical Spike. Slow and Steady!!! I was so skeptical about adopting a special needs dog but it has turned out great!!!!!!!! Spike was at the time a 10 yr old blind min pin. We still call him Spike (Mr. Spikey he is known as to the kids) but since we have gotten him from day 2 he was able to memorize the layout of the house and he walks around just fine. My three cats, one of which I got from you as well, seemed to have known he was blind because they sometimes help push him along his way. My next door neighbor jokes that she hears Spike snoring during the daytime since he sleeps underneath the window. When people come to the house they are always amazed when I show them that if you ring the bell Spike will dart up and make his way to the front door. It takes him a couple of minutes, but he gets there! The whole block knows and loves him!! He is a wonderful addition to our home and I thank everyone there for taking such good care of him while he was there. Thanks again for Spike!!!!! Lauren Peterson and Family
MAX:
Our old Max died October 2004 after 15 years with us. We still can't think about him without getting upset. A week after he died I still couldn't go to work, so we went to your shelter. We got there as you were closing and we were looking through the window at all the dogs in the office. My wife and I saw a 5 month old tan dog that looked just like the dog we just lost. One of your volunteers asked which dog we were looking at and when we pointed to him she said his name was Max. That's all I needed to make up my mind. She said I would have to come back the next day if I wanted him. I did not sleep that night and was there before you opened. He is so similar in some ways but the total opposite in others (great personality). I have not spent a day away from him in 2.5 years. He has the best life now, just like old Max, he has a gigantic fenced in yard, 3 beds, more toys than he can play with, goes on hikes in the woods, has a best friend that he plays with daily, goes to the Hampton's beaches, and only gets organic food (NO BY-PRODUCTS). He even stopped beating up our cat after a year, now they sleep together. The only way to heal is to replace your lost pet as soon as possible. If someone told me that when I had old Max I would say he could not ever be replaced. I even looked into cloning before they went out of business. Thanks, Eddie and Lisa Levy
ZIPPY:
Hi To All My Friends! I had an excellent ride home. We went to the PetSmart where I picked out a few toys, a bed, treats, chew stuff, and food. Everyone there, employees and customers alike, made such a fuss over me. On the way home we stopped at my new Mom's friends house, met her grandchildren and Sparkey their dog, she is just my size. Sometimes they will sit for me so, we got along fine. At home we settled in watched some TV. I watched a while but got bored, took a nap. My new bed sits on my Mom's king bed. I tried it but I like my Mom's bed better. Today we go to Grandma's house where tomorrow I will meet all the grandchildren. I am very busy but I will keep in touch. Love, Zippy
ANGEL:
Hi! I wanted to let you know that my fiancé and I adopted Angel, AKA Daisy, in May 2006. She is a border collie/Siberian Husky mix with bright blue eyes. She has come such a long way since last May. She is the greatest thing that has ever happened to us. Her mommy spoils her rotten, but her daddy is the one she knows she has to behave for! When she comes to her mommy's house, I always remind her that there are no rules, only fun! Angel loves running in the backyard and sitting on the bed looking out the window. She even knows how to give "High Five!" We just wanted to thank you for Angel; we feel so blessed to have given her a safe and happy home. Adoption is so important because there are so many dogs out there that were abused previously and they need to know what true love feels like. Angel was very timid when we first got her. You could never put her leash on her neck because she would try to snap at you. we think this is because her previous owners abused her. However, a year later, Angel is the most mushy, loveable dog ever. At night, she will nuzzle right up to my face and put her head on the pillow next to me. Again, thanks for introducing us to the most beautiful, sweet dog ever. Regards, Jennifer McCrink
BIG BOY, GOLDY and POPPY:
Just sending a Thank You card from "The Boys" and our family. From left to right Big Boy (yes, we kept his name, it just suits the big 22 pound bundle of love), Mr. Goldstein/Goldy (previously Jerry at the shelter), and Poppy/Poppers (previously known as Armando at the shelter). As you can see they have made themselves at home and taken over the couch. Big Boy was adopted in October 2006, and Goldy and Poppy were adopted together as a pair in December 2006. They all get along very well. Big Boy loves to be brushed and petted, Goldy loves to play with his toy mice for hours, and Poppy loves to snuggle up with you and turn his motorboat purr on. Big Boy found his way into my lap and began to purr, knead and look up at me with his big "take me home" eyes, and soon after
found himself a new home. Goldy and Poppy were just too cute, slept curled up together and meowed and purred their way into a new home. We all thank you so much for all you have done to find these cats a home, as well as the numerous other animals you take care of and find new homes for. Thank you once again. Big Boy, Mr. Goldstein, Poppy and Family
BLUE:
Hello Everyone, wWe just wanted to say thank you again for allowing us the privilege of adopting Blue. We made it home safely and had a great first night. Blue was able to get acquainted with our Old English Sheepdog and cat with no problems (a little wrestling with the dogs, but they were having fun!) He slept soundly through the night has been nothing but a true gentle giant with our two little girls - our oldest took a nap with him this afternoon. We're going to take him for a little obedience training. We'll keep you posted on his progress and thanks again!!! We really appreciate it. Jeff, Jodi, Julia & Madilyn Oakley. P.S.: We've renamed him "Chester Blue" (Chester for Central Westchester).
XENA:
I was looking on Petfinder at all the Chihuahuas in New York looking for homes when I came across Chiquita who was 10 years old. I thought "who would want to adopt such an old dog?", and figured that I would. My partner and I packed our pitbull terrier and three Chihuahuas into the SUV and drove 2 hours to Elmsford. We almost adopted her, but wound up letting her go home with two nice people who had also come to meet her. But while we were there, we noticed a brindle female pitbull puppy. We expressed our interest in playing with her, and to our delight, she was perfect. She was respectful of our Chihuahuas who were snapping at her, and she was sweet to our male pit who is also brindle. We adopted her and headed home. We decided to name her Xena. It didnt take long before Xena claimed the house and everything in it as her own. It is such a pleasure to see her chasing her new big brother around her new backyard, chewing on her new big bones, rolling around on her back in joy on her new bed, and cuddling in between us every night as we sleep. She plays gently with the Chihuahuas and loves to steal their tiny toys for herself. Xena is an angel who has brought our life so much happiness and was the missing piece to our family puzzle. She was so easy to train and impressed us with her ability to learn commands and respect everyone in the home. Alison.

ROLLY:
Rolly was adopted to a wonderful family with Peruvian Inca Orchid experience. He even got some new clothes before his trip home!"

RAVEN:
Hi everyone! My name when I was adopted on 3/3/07 was RAVEN but my new owners call me Skylla. I am adjusting with great ease into my new home and my new owners, their family and friends all think I am beautiful and such a SWEET girl. I already have gone to a St. Patrick's Day Parade, on several fishing adventures, long walks and bicycle rides (of course I run along side, silly). Fishing is fun - I love to bark at the fish! My new people tell me how very happy I make them. (Thank you, Elmsford Animal Shelter, for your hard work and dedication. Your staff made this experience a real pleasure.)
CASSIE:
Hi everyone! It's me ... Cassie! Remember me? Here I am with my "little" sister Myci (Missy). I have a big backyard and a swimming pool which I hope to enjoy this summer. I'm still in good health and look forward to celebrating my 12th birthday on July 12th! Thank you for taking such good care of me until Mom, Dad, Myci, and the cats (Stymie, Samantha, Noah and Mia) took me home! Love to all, Cassie
HERFORD:
A few months ago, my wife and I adopted Herford (we kept the name). He goes on long walks at least once, mostly twice a day. Alex (our other dog) doesn't really like him, but Alex pretty much only likes my wife, so he's not discriminating. Herford's always nice to Alex, despite of this. Herford now weighs 67 pounds (90 when I got him). He is still stubborn, but I work on that every day and it's nowhere near the level it was when I first met him. He's still shy as well, but not with us, only strangers ... although he lets people come up and annoy him often, with great patience. He has the best temperament of any dog I have owned, allowing you to take his toy away from him when he's playing with it (he breaks them often) and allowing you to put your hands in his food while he is eating. I knew I was right about this dog from day one. He is the epitome of "appearances aren't everything." There should be more people like Debbie working for shelters ... of course I wish there would be less dogs to handle and sometimes that makes for an environment that is hard to manage. Regardless, you guys have one of the toughest jobs on the planet. Please know that some of us have a lot of respect for what you handle day in and day out and wish you the best. Demitri
KANIKA:
Hi Debra and everyone at Elmsford Animal Shelter! I just came back from the groomer where I got a shampoo and cut. I think I like the new look -- the veterinarian, the groomer and everyone I meet think I must be younger than my 12 years because I'm so bouncy and energetic. I love to play in the snow! Thanks for taking good care of me! Say hi to everyone for me! Love, Nika
LILY:
Hi everyone, it's me, Kici. Well, I'm no longer Kici 'cause mommy and daddy renamed me Lily. I've been here in my new home for a week now and I love having the run of the place. The first 3 days I didn't because Gina Kitty was having too many "hissy" fits! But we get along great now and have lots of fun playing together. This place is just like living at the shelter -- there are 4 dogs and 2 cats ... I love living here and having Gina as my sister. Both Gina and I want to thank you for taking such good care of us before we moved here with our new mommy and daddy. Take care! Love and licks, Lily and Gina
CODY:
Here is a current picture of Cody, (known to you guys Selvester when we adopted him 1-1/2 years ago). Cody is doing great with Angel, his female pal. He loves his futon bed and leather couch. (Spoiled or what?) We are so happy we found him as he's in great health now, since he added the extra pounds. He loves to play Frisbee, and his favorite toy is a tennis ball. Did someone say catch? Also, he loves his tug toy when outside. He carries that around like it's a ball. Enjoy the picture, and maybe we will see you again. Al, Gloria, Cody and Angel, Plymouth, CT

SASHA:
To Elmsford staff: Thanks again for everything and helping us when we lost Sasha (for a day). Best regards, Sahra and Dave
MADDIE:
Four and a half years ago, I adopted two yorkies from you, Lexington and Madison. They were older and needed a lot of work. Lexie only lived ten months as he was very sick, but Maddie lived till this past November when she died of liver disease. She was the light of my life and I brought her to work with me, to vote, and all over. She traveled to many states and everyone knew her. I wanted you to see that she did in fact, have a "happy ending." She had a good life, I can assure you. Now I am in love with the breed! I will be doing yorkie rescue with Save A Yorkie (SAY), and will be able to foster yorkies in the near future. I'll be working with SAY to find permanent homes for them. Of course they will all likey be older and sick, but that's what we do. Thanks for all you do. Adele Conner
MAXINE:
Hello! Thought you might want to know how we are so happy with Maxine, the Great Dane/Greyhound brindle girl we adopted in August 2006 from your shelter. She settled in right away and has become a wonderful addition to our quiet household. She is so sweet and affectionate (and well behaved) and I believe she knows she is loved very much. We can't believe how lithe and graceful she is for a large dog of 92 pounds. We can see her greyhound genes come through when she is running in our large enclosed backyard. She is such a beautiful dog! We can't believe our good luck to be able to give her a comfortable, warm, loving home with plenty of treats, pets & hugs. Thank you for keeping Maxine safe until she found her way into our hearts. Susan C. Stanley
SMOKEY:
I just want to say hi and update you on my wonderful cat. On December 9, I adopted the cat you know as Smokey. She is now my beautiful Godiva. She made herself right at home immediately. Her favorite activities are playing with her toys (specifically pulling the tails off her toy mice), sitting on my lap, looking out her window and purring for no particular reason. I want to thank you for taking good care of her for the 2 years she was with you. The vet said she is in great health. Here's a picture. Like any proud cat-mom, I'll be taking plenty more.

IWE/QIYAN:
Here is a picture of Iwe/Qiyan that I promised. He is an amazing dog; one of my 2 favorite fosters. Crystal/Dutchess is doing great in her foster home and if fitting in wonderfully. Hope you have a happy new year with plenty of furever homes found.

BEAR:
My dog's name is Bear. I adopted her from Elmsford in July 1996. Here is a picture. Happy New Year. Bobby
 CHANCE:
To the folks at Elmsford Animal Shelter: I wanted to send a quick note of thanks and a picture of Chance. He is doing very well and has been a blessing in my life. I'm taking him in for his first vet visit this evening so I hope he remains as happy as he is now! Keep up the good work and you will see me in 2007 with donations for such a great cause! Best regards, Cassandra Johnson
BOOMER:
We renamed Sal "Boomer". He has adjusted well to the name. He is doing very well. We go on "squirrel patrol" (aka walks) 2 or 3 times a day. He does so well on the leash and has learned to sit down before crossing at intersections. He knows where all the other dogs in the neighborhood are and has met many of the neighbors' kids. He does very well with them. He loves his toys - likes to play tug with them. His other favorite thing to do with his toys is to rip them open and pull out all the stuffing! Another of his favorite activities is to kiss my husband until he cries uncle - we call it being Boomicized. We are so happy that Boomer adopted us! Kate
MERLIN:
Jeff and I have been meaning to send you a note about how wonderful Merlin (formerly Pal, one of the Katrina dogs) is and how much we appreciate all that Elmsford did for him. We saw his picture on your website last night, so I thought I would dash off an email so you had a little more info about his current life! His heartworm is gone and his eyes are now perfect--thank you for taking care of all of his pre-existing conditions at Central Animal Hospital. Merlin and my husband Jeff walk about eight miles a day in the Rockefeller Preserve and Merlin also participates in a local doggy play group. Merlin's been to numerous obedience classes and is a very quick learner. I just wanted to write a quick note immediately and send you a picture. We think you do an amazing job keeping so many animals alive with limited resources--we tell everyone that meets Merlin what a wonderful place Elmsford is. Thanks and keep up the good work!
MUFASA:
Dear shelter staff: I realized that it's been over 6 months since we adopted our cat from you, and I wanted to let you know how happy we all are. When we came to the shelter the very first cat we saw was a huge (18 lbs!) tabby named Mufasa on the special needs wall. Even though he had special needs we fell in love with the cat and adopted him the next week. When he first came home Mufasa (now renamed Solomon) was very skittish, but in time he relaxed and he's now a big lazy love bug. I'm attaching a picture of him in his favorite position (the "you will rub my belly now" pose, which is how he greets me when I come home from work). Thanks for putting us together with this great cat! Rachel
LUKE:
I eat grass. I chase bugs. I roll in deer poop. Everybody loves me.
Life is good.
Love,
Luke (formerly Oreo, adopted April 2005)
ASHER and MAGGIE:
When Sophie lost her cat buddy to cancer, she spent hours meowing for him. We decided to find her a new friend. We walked into Elmsford and ended up finding two! When we got home, Asher jumped out of the carrier and was immediately at home. Maggie took the same carefree attitude and spends all her time looking for fun. It seems as if they've always been with us. We'd like to thank everyone who took care of them in the year they spent with you. Without your commitment (and particular thanks to Lucy for her help), we wouldn't have the family we do today. Daniel and Nancy

DORIAN:
Dorian, now Titus, joined our family on August 16. We are very fortunate to have him in our lives. His sister Olive, who is a year old, couldn't be happier. She plays with him all day long and has taken on the "mommy role." Thanks again for allowing us to adopt him.
LAWRENCE:
I adopted Lawrence the black male cat a few months ago and just wanted to let you know that he's doing wonderfully well in his new home. Despite having lived in a cage for the past five years, he was immediately comfortable in his new surroundings. He couldn't wait to explore and to meet my other two cats Chewie (formerly known as Nathan, a previous resident of your shelter), and Wiley (a stray I've had from a kitten). Most of all, Ozzy is a total love bug. Any time I sit down, he's right there next to me. If I walk into another room, he's right behind me. When my parents visited last week, he surprised us all by climbing right into my father's lap! Not shy, this one; he finds many imaginitive ways to drape his body on or around the nearest human, then he starts up with very energetic "happy feet". I am so glad that I found him; he's a total character, and I can't imagine my home without him. Thank you! Laurie James
TONKA:
When I adopted Tonka in January 2004 from you guys, I promised I would keep in touch with how he is doing, and I thought you would get a kick out of his new hobby. Boating!! Tonka (then, Felix) is doing wonderfully since we adopted him. Although he was brought back twice, for whatever reason, he has really settled in wonderfully with his new family. His brother Oliver passed away October 4, 2005 at the young age of 10. It left our family with a gaping hole, and Tonka without his best friend. We then adopted 2 new puppies. Hope and Tonka have become boyfriend and girlfriend apparently... so I think I need a girlfriend for Charlie Bear soon, too. Hope all is well with you at the shelter. Thanks again for giving us the gift of Tonka.
IRIS:
Thank you very much for making arrangements for me to bring IRIS home with me. She has made herself at home as you can see, but her big brother is still a little jealous and doesn't quite know what to make of such a "little" sister. She is a sweet & smart little girl - just doesn't miss a trick. Take care. Donna Frawley
JESTER and HARLEQUIN:
We were so happy to run into you at CVS the other night. We have had Jester/Harlequin (now Rollie & Pennie) for just about a year. They are doing great and have won over our hearts after the death of our cat (Patch - also from Elmsford) from a hard fight with diabetes. They fit in perfectly in our family and we are happy to have kept the pair together. They are so much fun and we love them. Thank you so much again. Mike, Nancy, Rachel & Maddy Hirshan
TANGO:
Tango seems to be adjusting well. She's great with the girls and they love having her. Obviously, Tango has had a rough time medically. My wife and I have our concerns (future complications) but Tango tugged at our heart strings so we are determined to nurse her back to health. I went there to see the Dobermans, but Tango seemed to need us more. Although I do admit the Dobes were beautiful and probably would have been an easier challange, there was something about Tango...
CASEY:
I just wanted your shelter to know that I adopted a cat from you in 2000 and how much I appreciate what you do to help animals. Casey is 6 years old now and of course a part of our family. We moved from New York to New Jersey. I was going through his adoption papers and thought I would send you this email to let you know that your hard work pays off for finding animals loving homes. Keep up the great work. Just wanted to let you know and say thank you! Amy Bellomo
MIKA:
To all of you who helped Mika find our home: Mika the Basset is doing very, very well in her new home. As all of you know, she is a joy to have around! She has been to the vet for her Rabies Booster and check up, and has had her teeth cleaned (one tooth was pulled, but she is eating better now). She has a new ID tag and a license. We have tried to attach some pictures from Mika's first week here. It has been three weeks that she has been here and she is really settling in to the household routine with humans and dogs! She loves running and playing in her new backyard. Like most Bassets, she likes to hang around in the kitchen, especially when the refrigerator door opens. We get the impression that she was given a lot of "people food" by her first family, but she is getting used to a regular routine of eating dog food twice a day, occasional "people food," frequent naps, and crunchy dog treats with the other Bassets. We are so grateful that you placed Mika in our home. Thank you.
JADE: came to our shelter when her owner passed away and she was left behind with another shepherd, Blacky. After several visitors and too much time at our shelter, Jade found someone who could see just how beautiful and wonderful she was. She now lives with her new family where she's been showing off her commands!
TRISTAN: came to our shelter as a stray pooch full of mats and tangles. After a quick shave down, this gorgeous boy showed his true self and what a treasure he was. This perfectly good tempered and wonderfully well mannered little guy found a home quickly. We were of course sad to see him go but overjoyed that he has found a new family.
PUPPIES: When Noonie came to our shelter, she was pregnant and soon whelped a litter. After a few months, her puppies were ready to venture off on their own in search of new homes. Here are pictures of three of the four who have all been happily placed with new families.
MISSY: was a sweet little mix who was timid but playful. She lived outdoors for most of the first year of her life. With little to no socialization, this young girl was adopted to a phenomenal family who is working with her to help her learn how to love people and walk well on a leash.
JANICE: was a rescue from Hurricane Katrina. She came to us on a truck with 15 other dogs in search of homes. She was outgoing and affectionate and eager to play. She was quickly adopted by a family in search of a young, playful pup.
PAL: came to us as a Hurricane Katrina rescue. He came in with many other pups from the Hurricane in search of new homes. He was adopted sweet and well-mannered and was adopted very quickly by a famliy that saw what a wonderful pooch he was.

RUSTY: was a sweet Brittany Spaniel who loved people and loved to play. His favorite toy, as you can see, was his tennis ball. This sweet guy's personality was a true attention grabber and he quickly found himself a new home where he gets to play all day with his new family.

MURPHY: was a young chow mix who came to us a bit timid and unsure of whether he was willing to trust us. Once he warmed up, this sweet guys loving and playful personality shone through. This great guy found himself a new family quickly and is now living the life of luxury with his new parents.
SPARKY:
Hi there,
I adopted Sparky, the senior Dalmatian, 2 months ago and I just wanted to let you know how wonderfully he is doing in his new home. He bonded with me immediately. I couldn’t be happier with him, and he is so happy too!
In addition to glucosamine supplements, my vet recommended frequent short walks to build up the muscles in Sparky’s back-end. I’m happy to report he is already getting around much better and handling stairs like a much younger dog.
Attached are a couple pictures from arecent trip to Maine. Sparky enjoyed himself so much on our vacation. He LOVES riding in the car and even after the 9-hour trip to family’s house in Maine, he still wanted to get right back in for another ride later that night!
I just wanted to thank you. Sparky is the sweetest, most perfect dog. Thanks Again, Christy W.
CANDY and SHORTY: came in together. They were found as strays and their owner was tracked down but said she didn't want them back! They weren't here long before they found a new home where the two are always loved, watched and welcomed in the home.

BAX: is a gorgeous mastiff who was with us only briefly. This gorgeous pup came to us from Hurricane Katrina and was adopted quickly.
PEANUT: is a gorgeous bunny who came in with several others. Peanut's outgoing personality and fearless nature won him a home fairly wuickly ahere he now lives in bunny paradise.
RED: was left at our door one morning. This poor little guinea pig came in and quickly made friends with the other guineas and bunnies in his pen. His stunning colors helped him find a home quickly.
TOMMY and YUKI: Mother and son, came in from a home with many cats in search of new homes. Yuki and Tommy had a special mother and son bond and these stunning kitties were adopted quickly.
DIAMOND: was a pup that was with us for far too long. This gorgeous dobie mix came to us as a young pup and was adopted out. Her size and seemingly shy nature kept her out of the spotlight but her time eventally came and a wonderful family noticed her and swooper her up. This stunning beauty now has a new home with a wonderful family.
SCARPETTO: was only with us briefly. This young Rottie pup was a true sweetheart. He got along with everyone and was a real mush. He found a home quickly and headed back out to start his new life.
SAGGIO: Hi all! Good to see everyone yesterday :) I am sorry that the puppy wasn't there - but glad, of course, that she was adopted! I am not in your neck of the woods today - am working so won't be coming by. I know that the male that Sagg met yesterday liked him very much - but I think that a puppy, ultimately would be the best way to go for him. He had a friend over at the house this morning and they had a great time - he's a male too, but so if these puppies that we are going to look at (next weekend, they are being spayed this week) don't jive with him, I will be back to take another look! Ultimately, I need to find him a friend by mid Aug, as I will be working much more in Sept, and would love for them to have each other :) Enjoy the pics!!...and I will be forever grateful to all of you for bringing the precious, loving soul of Saggio into my life!! He is my heart - and I adore him to pieces!! Sincerely, Gina

| STARLING "Hi I'm Starling!" Starling is a 5 year old neutered grey and white domestic shorthair. He came to Elmsford because his previous owners were allergic. Starling is very sweet, good natured and enjoys a playful swat at his favorite toys! He is good with other animals and children. |
FOX is a 3 year old neutered male who was surrendered because his family said he was not always 100% with his litterbox. His is very outgoing and sweet, but should be placed in a home that is willing to work to correct his bathroom habits. He gets along well with other cats and children and would make a great family pet. |
GORGEOUS is a 7 year old spayed female. She is talkative and outgoing once she gets to know you, but she is wary of strangers. She is calm rather than active and a snuggler more than a player. She did come in with two other cats, one of whom has since been adopted, but her housemate Fat Albert is also here awaiting adoption. These two have been passed from home to home for most of their lives and are now searching for a permanent home. We would love to see the two go home together, but would be willing to split them if it meant a good home. Her ideal home would be a home without dogs or young children. |

 |
| SHANE is a senior aged male. He's friendly and affectionate. He has shared hutch with a special needs bunny, Mocha, and the two got along well and now shares his hutch with Wilbur, a senior aged bunny and the two get along well so we suspect Shane would do well with any other rabbit or guinea pig. |
GRANDPA is a 6 year old male. He is shy but inquisitive. He gets along well with the other pigs and rabbits in his pen. |
PATTY is a 4 year old male. He is friendly and outgoing. He can be a bit bossy but he does get along with the other guinea pigs and bunnies in his pen. |

 |
| NUTCRACKER is a return to our shelter. Adopted out just for a short period of time, this 2 year odl female was returned because she didn't get along with her new owners pets. However, here she has done perfectly well sharing her space with other rabbits and guinea pigs. She's outgoing and friendly and would do well in a home without young children. |

She is searching for a new home that may or may not have other pets but should not have young children (although she is well behaved with older kids) |
TOM & CHAMP are both just over 1 year. Tom is a neutered short hair brown tabby over white. Champ is a neutered short hair black and white. The two have very similar personalities. They are both people oriented and love attention, but can be a bit timid. With some patience and a lot of TLC, they would make wonderful additions to a calm household. They came to us together and can be adopted either together or separately. |
 |
 |
 |
| CASEY & PERDY came in together. Both are 1½ yr old Domestic Medium Hair cats. Casey is a black & white neutered male, and Perdy is a grey & white spayed female, a polydactyl -which is supposedly good luck! They are confident in personality & can be a bit testy when pushed too far, but are overall very tolerant & even tempered. While both can be very affectionate, they would do best in a home without young children. They can be adopted together or separately. |
COSMO and PRINCESS are 5-6 month old shepherd / retriever mixes. Cosmo is the larger of the two and gold in color. Princess is petite with obvious shepherd markings. Both are exuberant, healthy pups who would do best in a home prepared for lots of work ahead. They will need to be house-trained as well as leash trained but both are quick to learn. |
HARPER is a young black lab mix rescued after Katrina. This adorable little guy is energetic and playful. His energy may sometimes manifest as misbehavior, so his new family should be willing to go through obedience and have patience while he settles in to his new life. He does not enjoy the company of other animals but loves people of all ages. His ideal home would be a pet free family. |
 |

 |
| ROCCO is a young neutered rescue from Katrina. This energetic guy loves to run and play. His high energy levels make him a handful on the leash but with a little bit of obedience we're sure he'd make an excellent family pet. Rocco gets along well with other dogs and loves people of all ages. He would make a wonderful family pet for any home willing to make this life-long commitment. |
JAKE is a 5 year old neutered flat coated retriever mix. He’s a happy, active dog whose previous owners could not give him the attention he craves and deserves. Jake would make a great hiking or boating companion for a single or multiple dog family who loves the outdoors. |
SPIKE is a 10 month old neutered male Samoyed. He is very playful and loves human attention. He has lived with young children and behaved well. He knows basic commands and was completely housebroken in his prior home. Spike would make an excellent family pet for any pet-free home. |
 |
 |
 |
| ROCKY is a 5 year old neutered fox terrier mix. He’s a friendly, alert little dog with boundless energy who enjoys constant exercise and playtime. He can be shy with strangers at first and would be best placed in a home with adults or older kids, as his exuberance would be too much for smaller children. Since Rocky does not enjoy the company of other animals, he must be the only family pet, garnering all of your attention. |
REMY Remy is an 8 month old female pit mix. She lived the first six months of her life indoors and did not experience the world until after that. Because of this she is shy and can be timid, but she is very gentle with people and gets along well with other dogs. |
OSIRIS is about 2 1/2 years old. He is a neutered grey and white short hair. He gets along well with other cats and loves attention. Energetic and playful, he may nip when he's tired of playing. People oriented and an attention seeker, Osiris would make a wonderful companion in a patient adult household. |

MARDI GRASMardi Gras is a year old neutered border collie who came to us from a New Orleans shelter, post-Katrina. He’s an energetic, intelligent dog who gets along great with people of all ages, but finds it very stressful to be around other animals. Mardi Gras is extremely loving and responsive. He warms up immediately to strangers and enjoys constant exercise and attention. He would make an excellent single pet for any family willing to take him on as an active and involved member. |
 |
 |
 |
| KYM is a 5 year old spayed yellow lab. An active and energetic girl, Kym would best be placed in a home with active adults. She gets along well with other dogs but we are unsure of her cat experience. She's not only adorable but she's sweet too! She needs some reminders on her obedience, but we are confident she will make a good addition to a home without young children. |
DUSTY is an extra large neutered male with an extra large personality. This big guy loves to hug. As big as he may be, he'll hook his claws into your shirt (but he won't hurt you!) and hang on your chest until you settle down on the couch to lavish him with attention fit for a king. He loves to eat, but his love of food has certainly taken a toll on his physique. His new owner should consider a diet to help this big guy shed a little weight. He has never shared his space with a roommate, so we're not sure how he'd get along with another cat, but we do know he is not partial to young children. His ideal home would be a home with older children or adults. |
GINGER is a baby female born in August (littermate to Dusty). She is very friendly and outgoing. She's also very inquisitive. She currently shares her hutch with several other rabbits and guinea pigs and gets along well with all of them. Very tiny and very soft, she would make a great snuggly companion for an experienced rabbit owner. |

Phoebe is sable colored and 4 years old, Luca (snuggled in the bed) is the smallest of the three at about 3 years old and Tristin, the inquisitive baby, is 2. The three ferrets currently share their cage and all get along well, often snuggling all together in their hanging bed. They are available for adoption to a good home but must be adopted together. Please call the shelter and speak with Emily for more information. |

| DUSTY is a female born in August (littermate to Ginger). She is shy but friendly. She currently shares her hutch with several other rabbits and guinea pigs and gets along well with all of them. Very tiny and very soft, she would make a great snuggly companion for an experienced rabbit owner. |
LADY is a 3 1/2 year old spayed female Corgi mix. Originally rescued from a less than ideal home, her rescue mom unfortunately was unable to keep her. This shy girl is timid at first and takes some time to warm up, but once she's comfortable she will be by your side or in your lap whenever able. We hear that carrots are a good way to her heart. She gets along well with other dogs and has lived with cats. Although she has lived with young children in the past, her ideal home now would consist of adults or older children and any combination of family pets. |
SEXY is a 3 year old, spayed Amstaff Terrier mix. She is a beautiful, blue nose girl with fur as soft as the look you'll see in her eyes as she comfortably lounges on the bed or sofa waiting for a belly rub. An unlikely lap dog, Sexy is fun-loving and confidant. She is housetrained, knows basic commands, and plays a perfect game of fetch, dropping the ball gently and waiting patiently for the next throw. Potential owners should have strong arms and an enjoyment of the game to match her own. Slightly dog selective, Sexy's ideal family would be as a single pet in a household with energetic adults and kids of any age. |

 |
| MOCHA is a 9 year old spayed female Mini-Rex rabbit. He came to us when the rental company no longer permitted rabbits in the apartments. He's gentle and sweet and gets along well with other rabbits. He had an infection in his hind legs and now has some problems walking. We were also treating his dry skin and some minor ear irritation. He is a special needs bunny and would best be placed in a home with older children or adults. |
NORA is a young female rabbit who was found as a stray. Her rescuer found her wounded wandering the street and tried to take her in. Unfortunately, she was allergic and unable to keep her. Nora is outgoing and confident. She's affectionate and enjoys her people time. She gets along with other rabbits and guinea pigs and would probably be fine in any home, although we suggest a home with older children who will be gentle with her. |
SCOUT is a spayed adult female. When Scout came into the shelter she was timid and shy; her beautiful and luxurious fur was terribly matted. Having been traumatized by losing her home, Scout was cautious with people. But after just a few weeks of brushings, lots of pets, and lounging in laps, Scout is a much happier and healthier cat. She's very gentle and affectionate. She's a perfect lap cat, who would make a devoted companion. After all she's been through, Scout would surely appreciate a loving home. She is on a special diet to help prevent crystals forming in her bladder. |

 |
| SUNNY Sunny is a Long Haired neutered male. This sweet guy came in with is brother, Travis, when their owner was no longer able to care for them. He's a bit shy at first but eventually warms up. Once he's comfortable, he's a true mush with a love of treats and good, long pettings. His perfect home would be a home with or without other cats, but preferrably no young children as they may overwhelm him. |
HENRIETTA is an 8 year old Australian Shepard mix. She is a sweet, loving dog with a very calm nature. Content to lie at your feet most of the day, Henrietta is fully housetrained, so she does enjoy her daily walks. She can be a bit cranky with other dogs, so would be best placed as a single pet in a quiet family setting. |
HENNESSY is a 3 1/2 year old spayed Boxer mix. She's an affectionate girl who's well behaved with people of all ages. She does not get along well with other animals however, and has a relatively strong prey drive. She an intelligent girl who walks well on leash and knows basic commands. She loves to play ball and would make an excellent companion for an active home. But when playtime is over, Hennessy is content to relax and lay calmly in your lap. Her ideal home would be a pet-free home with an active family so she can be the center of attention. |
